Q Diamond is a lifelong NY resident, born and raised in Schoharie County, NY. He has been the Infant Toddler Project Associate at the Early Care and Learning Council for over a year. Previously, Q served as the Program Director for the Capital District Gay & Lesbian Community Council in Albany from 2006-2009 where she had the opportunity to help revitalize current programs including the Center Youth program (for 13-19 yr olds), and to originate new programs including the Center Families initiative (to connect and support LGTBQ families with young children) and the LGBTQ College Network (to connect area LGBTQ college students, groups, and staff.) Q has given many professional presentations and trainings on a host of LGBTQ–related issues to a range of business, religious, social service, and academic organizations across a large portion of central NY.
She has both Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Women’s Studies (with minors in Psychology and Sociology), both from the University at Albany where he has also been teaching since 2001. In 2011-2012, Q is directing the Women's Studies Teaching Collective at UAlbany and finds great joy in working closely with graduate and undergraduates in their process of learning how to teach.
Q loves working with and for children and youth. In 2010, she completed the Foster Parent Certification process through Northeast Parent and Child Society. In his free time, Q enjoys a host of activities including walking, biking, reading, watching and participating in live theater, experiencing live music (especially his favorite – Lori McKenna), cooking (mostly the eating part), and watching independent films.
Q is very excited to live in the meetinghouse with his partner Caryn and serve as the Resident Caretaker and work with this community of Friends whom she has long admired.
Caryn Gottlieb is a recent transplant to NY from Sacramento, CA. Not long after her arrival in Albany, she was hired to run one of the after school programs at the Albany
Jewish Community Center. Caryn has a passion for working one on one with children with autism specifically in the Son-Rise method. Prior to doing behavioral therapy, she worked for seven years as a high school special education teacher and resource specialist in English.
Caryn has a BA in English/Creative Writing from Mills College in Oakland and is working on finishing her M.S. in Special Education. In her free time, Caryn loves to cook/bake, read, do books arts, crochet, write poetry and attend open mics. She loves movies and music – her favorite is Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Caryn comes from a long line of peaceniks and she left a big community of Not In Our Name organizers in California. She feels really blessed to be living in and amongst the Albany Friends community because Quaker values mirror her own.
Q and Caryn are recently engaged and look forward to getting married and starting a family.
